Copper Guardian

Copper Guardian

Air conditioner theft is on the rise in almost every state, and specifically in our home state of Arizona it could be considered an epidemic. These thefts are attributed to two key factors. The first is the economy. Copper and aluminum are a very easy targets to steal. It is light, bendable, and valuable. The second factor is the rise of copper and aluminum scrap prices. In the past few years, copper and aluminum prices have soared at the local scrap yard. Some states have required identification to be provided when scraping larger amounts of these materials, but the thefts continue, and there are many scrap or recycling yards in most cities and states.

These thefts used to be reduced to abandoned buildings, but now the thieves have become faster and will target any home, business or public gathering place. These thefts will net about $25.00 - $200.00 for a few minutes of work. Some thieves will scrap the unit right where it sits, and others will steal the whole condensing unit if it is accessible and easy to get.

Copper Guardian was designed after several friends and customers asked what could be done to help deter and detect theft of copper, coils and whole air conditioning units. So it was off to the drawing board.

We researched different devices that protect air conditioning units and found some that claim to be effective, others that claim to keep people away because of a cage, and still others that trigger a siren to go off, thus scaring away the thief, after damaging the unit.

So we looked into them, looked at their pro’s and con’s and went to work designing one that takes care of all your needs, looks good, doesn’t require upkeep and maintenance, and provides protection for your valuable equipment.
